What is Outgunned?

Outgunned is a modern action RPG where a team of heroes takes on impossible missions while surrounded by enemies, conspiracies, and ticking clocks. Inspired by action cinema, the game focuses on high-energy scenes like chases, shootouts, daring infiltrations, and dramatic showdowns.

One player acts as the Director, shaping the story by portraying villains and supporting characters, as well as setting the stage for cinematic scenes. The other players are Heroes—the action stars at the center of the story.

Rather than meticulous planning, the game encourages improvisation, bold risks, and dramatic storytelling. Heroes must leap into danger, adapt on the fly, and trust their instincts to carry through. Campaigns in Outgunned often play out like action films, with short story arcs over several sessions that build towards an explosive finale.

Game Features

• Play Cinematic Action Heroes — Create characters inspired by classic action movie archetypes: unstoppable fighters, brilliant hackers, charming spies, and renegade detectives.
• Director’s Cut Dice System — Outgunned uses a fast-paced dice pool system called Director’s Cut, where players roll a pool of six-sided dice and aim to create matching sets to succeed in dramatic actions.
• Dangerous Rolls and Gambles — Players can push their characters to attempt bigger and more daring actions, trading safety for spectacle—just like an action hero diving through a window or charging into impossible odds.
• Shots and Cinematic Campaigns — Adventures are structured like a movie or tv show. Each Shot represents a mission or episode, while multiple Shots combine into a Cinematic Campaign that builds towards a dramatic finale.
• Escalating Consequences — Outgunned includes mechanics like Heat, Complications, and Advancements to ensure that every mission raises the stakes and brings new trouble for your heroes.
• Guns and Gear — Heroes rely on a wide range of weapons and tools, from pistols and rifles to gadgets like grappling hooks and night-vision devices.
